Sosa vs. Burnitz

I meant to do a stats comparison between the Cubs' old RF, Sammy Sosa, and the new guy in right Jeromy Burnitz at the end of each month. You know, for shits and giggles. Well I've finally gotten around to doing that.

Here is Sammy's current stat line :

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB AVG OBP SLG OPS
157 16 37 7 1 5 17 16 24 1 .236 .311 .389 .699

This is Burnitz's stat line:

AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI BB SO SB AVG OBP SLG OPS
218 29 57 13 2 8 34 18 41 3 .261 .314 .450 .764

Granted Burnie has played in 15 more games than Sosa (due to Sammy's foot injury) but it is clear he is doing a bit better than Sosa so far this year. So for all of those who still carry the torch for Sammy (you know who you are) the Cubs would be no better off with the Dominican Dumbass playing in right. If anything Burnitz has been playing the Sosa role well, towering home runs and lots of strike outs, altough he has been a slightly better contact hitter than Sammy thus far. All this without the showboating and hops after hitting a homerun.

Sammy who?
